Aedes japonicus, the Asian bush mosquito, is an invasive species with the potential to transmit arboviruses in various parts of the world. Understanding the temperature preferences of these mosquitoes in semi-natural settings is crucial for predicting their distribution and disease transmission patterns. This article presents an overview of the temperature preferences of Aedes japonicus mosquitoes in semi-natural environments. Research suggests that their preferred temperature range lies between 20°C and 30°C (68°F to 86°F), within which they exhibit increased activity, feeding, and reproductive behaviors. Warmer temperatures enhance their metabolic rate, leading to higher activity levels, particularly during the daytime. Additionally, Aedes japonicus mosquitoes display unique overwintering behavior, seeking shelter in protected locations during colder months. Climate change can significantly impact their distribution and abundance, expanding their suitable habitats and potentially increasing disease transmission risks.
