Local communities possess a wealth of traditional knowledge that is instrumental in successful resource management. By empowering these communities to participate in governing and protecting their fisheries, community-based management fosters a sense of ownership and stewardship. Through collective action, these communities can implement tailored rules and regulations that promote equitable benefits and the long-term health of fisheries. Furthermore, communitybased management enhances the resilience of coastal populations by reducing conflicts, overexploitation, and dependence on fishing as the sole income source.
