Accumulation of radionuclide in aquatic plants and fish can reach to the human food chain. Studies of bioaccumulation characteristics of various aquatic species growing over the fresh water ecosystem is essential for long term planning of industrial waste disposal in ecosystem. Aquatic plants such as algae, Eichornia, Hydrilla etc. and plants growing over sediment like Polygonum barbatum and Cyndon dectylon were analyzed for radionuclide uptake. Different fish species are also analyzed for radionuclide content. Biological uptake of radionuclide fish species found to be very low and subsequent radiation dose due to U and 226Ra through ingestion is 1.1 µSv. Compared to dose received due to natural background radiation, the contribution from the fish intake is insignificant.
