Penicillin?s in the Treatment of Respiratory Infections

In addition to bronchodilators, several other drug groups are frequently used in the treatment of respiratory disorders, decongestants, antihistamines, antitussives, muco-kinetics, respiratory stimulants and depressants, and paralyzing and antimicrobial agents. The drug grouping may provide clues regarding the nature of the problem for which it was taken, or vice versa. For example, a patient experiencing mucosal oedema may complain of feeling stuffed up and the patient may be taking an over-the-counter decongestant or antihistamine. The common cold, allergies, and many respiratory infections have in common the symptoms of runny nose and stuffy head. Decongestants are used to treat this upper
airway mucosal oedema and discharge.
