Psychedelics for post-traumatic stress disorder: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Objective: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a devastating psychiatric illness with few effective pharmacologic treatment options. Recently, psychedelic and hallucinogenic drugs have been explored as treatments in conjunction with psychotherapy. The objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to examine the efficacy of psychedelic drugs for the treatment of PTSD.

 methylene dioxymethamphet amine (MDMA), ketamine, lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), or psilocybin, and with clearly presented clinician-administered PSTD scale (CAPS) pre and post treatment. To find these studies, literature searches in PubMed, Embase, PsycInfo, the Cochrane Library, and PTSDpubs were performed. Oxford quality score was used to assess individual studies. A meta-analysis was performed using a metameter of the mean difference between pre and post-treatment CAPS scores
