Understanding Alzheimer?s disease: Unraveling the Mysteries of a Neurodegenerative Challenge

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by cognitive decline, memory loss, and impaired daily functioning. It is the most common cause of dementia, affecting millions of individuals worldwide. The pathological hallmarks of Alzheimer’s include the accumulation of beta-amyloid plaques and tau tangles in the brain, leading to synaptic dysfunction and neuronal loss. Despite extensive research, the exact etiology of AD remains elusive, involving a complex interplay of genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors. The socio-economic impact of Alzheimer’s is substantial, with a growing burden on healthcare systems and caregivers. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the current understanding of Alzheimer’s disease, encompassing its epidemiology, neuropathology, risk factors, diagnostic approaches, and therapeutic strategies.
